FROM THE POET

This is a series of poems written by John Svododa over a number of years. There are times of peak-where numerous poems were written & there are also times of lows where there are long periods between each poem. As the author is trying to reach a goal of 1001 (and then retire!!) it was never envisaged that this would be done over a short period of time. Poems can be humorous, ridiculing someone or something, show a meaning of hurt or love or even project feelings that not necessarily be directed to the same person/thing, can be a reflection of life or to be life. Most poems are trying to send a message to the reader be it not understandable or nonsense.

The idea of this poet is not to have any ill feelings against anyone but to be read by young whom can learn about life – and by the elderly look back at what could have been. Some are very personal- but who cares when you are currently living in a life that has total enjoyment. Suggestion is not to criticize but to take in the enjoyment of creative poetry make it meaningful and thus may be you can be an author.

Poem Number 236 - Staff Retrenched - 17/12/1987

Since the discrimination act has been introduced,
For a long time, nothing or anything had been heard,
Now a day you must watch out to what you say to anyone,
As even a true good friend of yours could take you to court.

This incident that has happened to one young office worker,
Started off as nothing but as a joke of a rumour.
For another office worker who had just a year ago,
Who admitted that he had sexual contact with another male officer worker.

For this young office worker, to whom it was told too,
Made sure that this would remain in his mind forever,
For the rude bastard he is to speak to anyone else.
When we found out that the other male officer worker,
Had a girlfriend at the same office,
He took her to task, called her an, ‘Aids carrier’!

Now this is the story, for which I have been told,
The story of which grown to be old and bold,
And there are no real witnesses to be of his defence,
For she took this matter to the company: with three main witnesses to back her up.

These people are too young to be fighting amongst themselves,
To be backstabbing each other from the front to the back.
This will go to an outside court, to be heard by a judge,
And I hope that whatever decision is made, that the judge tells them not to play childish games.
