FROM THE POET

This is a series of poems written by John Svododa over a number of years. There are times of peak-where numerous poems were written & there are also times of lows where there are long periods between each poem. As the author is trying to reach a goal of 1001 (and then retire!!) it was never envisaged that this would be done over a short period of time. Poems can be humorous, ridiculing someone or something, show a meaning of hurt or love or even project feelings that not necessarily be directed to the same person/thing, can be a reflection of life or to be life. Most poems are trying to send a message to the reader be it not understandable or nonsense.

The idea of this poet is not to have any ill feelings against anyone but to be read by young whom can learn about life – and by the elderly look back at what could have been. Some are very personal- but who cares when you are currently living in a life that has total enjoyment. Suggestion is not to criticize but to take in the enjoyment of creative poetry make it meaningful and thus may be you can be an author.

Poem Number 161 - Consistently Writing - 1/9/1986

While traveling to and from work,
You see different faces in or outside your bus.
Strangers they are to you,
But how friendly do they seem?

Beautiful faces of women,
Lipsticked and powdered make-up.
They’re brushed so shiny and straight,
Their blouses and dresses showing off their femininity.

Men with open neck shirts and coats,
Men with entrepreneurial suits,
Men with sunglasses and brief cases,
With different ties, showing off their masculinity.

Some women will show off their golden diamond rings,
Some women will show off their thin untouched legs,
Some women will show off part of their chest,
Using body language, to show whose the best.

Most of the men wear gray-black suits,
An odd old man will be seen with his “thirties chapeaux”,
An odd young man will be wearing a suit of worn-off jeans,
With a haircut, so clean it so distinct as it is cut short.

Amongst these men and women on the bus,
Are the journals of newspapers; advertising daily headlines.
With literature of all sorts: from women’s magazines to love stories,
To one person, me! Whom I can see, is the only person consistently writing!
