FROM THE POET

This is a series of poems written by John Svododa over a number of years. There are times of peak-where numerous poems were written & there are also times of lows where there are long periods between each poem. As the author is trying to reach a goal of 1001 (and then retire!!) it was never envisaged that this would be done over a short period of time. Poems can be humorous, ridiculing someone or something, show a meaning of hurt or love or even project feelings that not necessarily be directed to the same person/thing, can be a reflection of life or to be life. Most poems are trying to send a message to the reader be it not understandable or nonsense.

The idea of this poet is not to have any ill feelings against anyone but to be read by young whom can learn about life – and by the elderly look back at what could have been. Some are very personal- but who cares when you are currently living in a life that has total enjoyment. Suggestion is not to criticize but to take in the enjoyment of creative poetry make it meaningful and thus may be you can be an author.

Poem Number 245 - Mirrors Of Love - 21/1/1988

Walking on air where is no depth to fall into,
Is to be free of everything that you stand for.
You devour total love and care to only one you so love,
You deserve to be up there with the partner of your eternal life.

Deeper and deeper your life grows,
Like God’s creation of a hundred year old bush tree.
It is all not so much pleasure and leisure,
As minutes go into hours, there is also a little danger.

The danger is that when you both disagree on something,
And this, ‘Sometimes’, starts off as completely nothing,
You hurt each other a little by saying what you don’t mean,
But it is all said and then the remembrance remains.

Kind words of wisdom to one,
While the other listens intensively,
And when one’s finished speaking his or her mind,
It is then wise to speak nicely to your partner.

Forever tears would be shed whilst being addressed,
To sort everything out in such a manly and mature method,
Would mean less heartbreak and more care and attention,
To each of you and reflect the mirrors of love, you share.

Poem Number 173 - Man, Grown Man - 14/9/1986

For someone who is a current non-alcoholic,
It isn’t hard to spot his liquors drinks.
He may camouflage his glass with his gross hands,
But never will he drink lightly, on the side.

For someone who likes practicable jokes at work
He will never mean to act so young.
With looks of a twenty year old,
There is a bright smile on his face, to be sold.

Sold to the top forty lists of acquaintances,
Of young illegal sexual age.
For he who never stops with girls,
Will always have a good start.
May he who not smoke,
If so, only once every three months,
Be smart in not introducing me to his friend,
Who, same like me, does smokes.

At least, he’ll grow out of his immaturity,
But only time will take its course,
To result with a man-grown-man,
And on his feet, take his feet on the stand.

The ladies say that he is smart,
But the ones that say that to him are tarts.
The guys all look at him, as a macho-man image,
And then, they throw him for a show, on his own stage.

Poem Number 165 - Market Researchers - 5/9/1986

Well, with these self-funding discussions,
Of which I certainly enjoy to go to, to receive cash,
With no added friends from work now attending.
The discussions become quite interesting.

My first group discussion was on Irish coffee liquors,
My second, on renovating houses of all sorts,
My third was on the description of ‘wattle paints’,
My fourth, on smoking six cigarettes for one hour.

And finally sending back a survey for more cash,
My fifth, was on also cigarettes and was paid a lot,
My six was on champagne and wine,
My seventh (and of recent), was on United Permanent Building Society.

My talk subjects is fine,
For just an hour and a half of time,
It amazes my friends in what I say,
It also amazes them in what is said, around the table.

To this day, I’m a so-called ‘expert’,
In market research of all kinds.
What started so serious,
I’ll now take as a joke!

Poem Number 127 - Spare A Thought Or Two - 7/7/1986

You’ve got to be young at heart,
To enjoy each other’s heart.
You’ve got to control what needs to be controlled,
By your own instincts and needs.

Just because we made love two days ago,
Just because I didn’t want to pregnatise you,
I precautioned myself, so that our needs were guaranteed,
And that itself, was my first, indeed.

I know how you felt by me not being there,
I can sort of feel, that you felt lost to me.
Well yes! I wasn’t well, but not because of love,
I just didn’t and wouldn’t feel like going out, that night.

I cannot love you, if you don’t worry for me,
I cannot be a true man, unless ‘you’ is around.
I can love you and yet you will feel respected,
As I know that this was your second time to do so.

Do not feel afraid of a young man, I am,
As what I say and do, is always what I mean.
What I said in our first few weeks, is what I mean is true,
This just is not so, I can remember this, but for just you and me.

This is just not an act of love,
This just not an act at all,
This is our reality,
And what we make of it, as well.

If you do not worry of your love,
There is no that you should worry.
Then again, if you worry of your love and there’s no response,
Then you are having a crisis, within your love-time.

Do not hurt yourself by hurting others,
For in time, they may hurt you.
Do not over patience yourself,
For they will in time, be patient.

Never fear! For John is here!
Never despair, for you aren’t alone.
To marry: one penis and cunt aren’t anything,
It is what is in them, which count.

There isn’t a moment to spare,
When you are having, more than a love affair.
Spare a moment or two,
For the love between him and you.

Poem Number 84 - It Was I - 8/5/1985

Friday night a door had opened,
I searched, inch by inch on both sides.
My two feet wanted to dance on the club floor,
I left my table, friends and beer.

The second girl I approached,
After I asked, I could not believe her eyes.
Little old me, only requested her for a dance,
She replies that she has never danced.

I grabbed her hands, so gently,
Boy! Was I feeling so manly?
The stepping on toes, my bumping to others,
And I tried to dance, so gracefully.

Being sweet sixteen and mature in mind,
At least, Cathie did not seem so physically blind,
Just like what my life was, to me in my teens,
Not knowing where I was going and getting lost, in the scene.

Picking up a wrong deck of cards,
And then Stan, showing us where to go!
Sitting down with her, we couldn’t believe our luck,
While the dancers kept dancing, I was just thinking.

Before she left, she wanted to know if I wanted her number,
Of course I did. I didn’t expect this!
We both exchanged our numbers with curiosity,
And wondered, who’ll make the first call!

It was I!

Poem Number 29 - Advice - 16/12/1983

I go for too much advice,
Yet, I never think twice,
As the trouble I make,
Is “thrice”.
