FROM THE POET

This is a series of poems written by John Svododa over a number of years. There are times of peak-where numerous poems were written & there are also times of lows where there are long periods between each poem. As the author is trying to reach a goal of 1001 (and then retire!!) it was never envisaged that this would be done over a short period of time. Poems can be humorous, ridiculing someone or something, show a meaning of hurt or love or even project feelings that not necessarily be directed to the same person/thing, can be a reflection of life or to be life. Most poems are trying to send a message to the reader be it not understandable or nonsense.

The idea of this poet is not to have any ill feelings against anyone but to be read by young whom can learn about life – and by the elderly look back at what could have been. Some are very personal- but who cares when you are currently living in a life that has total enjoyment. Suggestion is not to criticize but to take in the enjoyment of creative poetry make it meaningful and thus may be you can be an author.

Poem Number - Happy Mother's Day Tomorrow!

Happy Mothers Day Tomorrow!

A mother is a woman that is special to all mankind,
A mother nurtures the young child in the womb into our great world,
She feels like the wind cooling you down in the hot sun,
She has the majestic powers to listen and talk to daughters and sons,
A mother has the experience of leading your child the right way,
A mother has such wisdom to make each day last to another day,
A mother knew her mother and wants to follow in the shadows of her steps,
A mother would like her child to lead their life and follow in her footsteps,
Yet a mother's nice word must be heard,
To listen to and be understood,
A mother will be that guide that you were looking for, when lost,
A mother will find the right way to take you out of the dark Forrest,
A mother is your mother that kisses and caresses you in joy,
A mother will be equal to her children: whether it be girl or boy,
A mother will jump over fences and swim in water to find you, if lost
A Mother will pick up your mess and leave you so cleaned!
Your mother will always be your mother even though she leaves this world,
So if she has treasure her love for her and tell her how you love her untold,
Take her out, shout her a meal, ring her up, visit her and pray for her,
as although Mother's Day is near - every day is Mother's Day forever!

Poem Number 240 - Good News To Be Told - 4/1/1988

Yesterday we were to wake up early, after dawn,
To go to the airport: to see someone gone.
So off we left from Cronulla by train,
And finish by foot for half an hour.

We arrived there a little on time to say ‘Goodbye’ to ‘Pushpa and Stanley’,
After all the luggage was checked, the twenty dollars departure was paid,
And also the snapshots that everyone wanted taken were finished,
We rested ourselves with little good conversation said.

Then my eyes lit up my face, turned to happiness,
My tension had been unlocked and released and my voice was quickly talking.
This was due to Nirmala telling me of unexpecting news,
The news of ‘Pretika’ and her parents got their visas.

With Pushpa flying away for a weeks,
Maybe all the family could arrive in Australia,
With Stanley and herself on their arrival,
Leaving not one bag in Fiji for remembrance.

IT WAS GOOD NEWS TO BE TOLD!

Poem Number 237 - Card Sending - 17/12/1987

A simple decision to decide which persons you send a card,
Do you send your wishes to someone you haven’t met in a long time?
Do you send to people, who you have known for a long time,
For the answers are of importance, to yourself.

Think of it this way: every thoughtful card you send,
May bring some happiness to the person that receives your card,
But for every person that doesn’t receive one,
They may not communicate to you for a while or forever.

So be thoughtful around Christmas and New Year’s time,
Cards are to be sent to everyone that you have to send too.
I mean, if you send one and don’t have a return of one,
You will not feel sorry of yourself, as you have done more than your duty.

Poem Number 62 - To A Lady I Know - 9/4/1984

May I write a poem of hope for one lady,
Who has recently moved to that big city.
Financial, working in an easy country town,
Selling life assurance, with no frowns.

She finds it hard, to get to know this city,
Yet by herself, she has decided to live in Sydney.
I know she has tried to find her feet on the ground,
As true friendship in Sydney, is hard to find.

This lovely lady has found a good school for her teenage daughter,
And she would like to help me get off my feet, as well.
Yet, I would like to give her many leads, from work,
As I know, it would be like working for her in the dark (with the light turned on bright).

I may be young, but I would like to be,
As good as can be to anyone.
It’s my turn to help as much as I can,
As it’s better to use two hands, than one!
