FROM THE POET

This is a series of poems written by John Svododa over a number of years. There are times of peak-where numerous poems were written & there are also times of lows where there are long periods between each poem. As the author is trying to reach a goal of 1001 (and then retire!!) it was never envisaged that this would be done over a short period of time. Poems can be humorous, ridiculing someone or something, show a meaning of hurt or love or even project feelings that not necessarily be directed to the same person/thing, can be a reflection of life or to be life. Most poems are trying to send a message to the reader be it not understandable or nonsense.

The idea of this poet is not to have any ill feelings against anyone but to be read by young whom can learn about life – and by the elderly look back at what could have been. Some are very personal- but who cares when you are currently living in a life that has total enjoyment. Suggestion is not to criticize but to take in the enjoyment of creative poetry make it meaningful and thus may be you can be an author.

Poem Number Richard Amery I Met Today

Richard Amery , Hon. State  Member for Mount Druitt,
I met today briefly,
He is such a nice gentleman,
There are mixed feelings I feelings I have of Richard Amery.

These are regarding recontesting the seat of Mount Druitt next year,
At this stage he is keeping his options open,
As stated to myself today,
He lives at the same little house for over forty years.

He loves the area (like I do and many others),
And claims he really has enjoyed doing his work as a State Member of Mount Druitt,
I do hope he contests the seat,
But that is up to him and his Labor Party Team to decide.

I remember when I wasn't living in the area,
And he had the post of NSW Minister of Police,
He may not have realised that he would have made a good NSW Premier,
If he chose to take these footsteps within the NSW Parliament.

Richard Amery has a string following in the area,
And would be hard to beat him on election day,
t would have had to be a string Independent Candidate to do so,
To me that is highly unlikely.

In relation to Public Transport, Richard Amery,
Is wondering why the Opal Cards be available at Sydney Train Stations,
To understand this,
This  can be understanding.

Poem Number 268 - A Helping Hand - 18/2/1988

Last week I received a nice special phone call,
To be asked to give a hand, where no one's pulling his or her socks.
What is it, 'He is asking me to do?
Is to give help for the State elections coming up.’

For who lives down in south in Cronulla,
It is a pleasure to do this for the Liberal Party,
But jokes aside the winning tide has arrived,
I only help for the party not for the candidate.

I know her chances of winning are strong,
And I know that there's only a slight chance,
I could be wrong, so to just enjoy the drinks and food of the election night,
To be with crowds of supporters who work hard all day.

And then listening to minutes of news reports,
That presents such stormy forecast for 'Barry',
And to eventually hear the cheers and laughter,
Of a hard fought courageous landslide victory.

With Neville out,

With Barry out,

With Nick in,

And he's forever holding on!

Poem Number 210 - Important Campaign - 15/9/1987

On the twenty-sixth of September, ninety eighty-seven,
There will be a Statewide Local Government Election.
And in the Municipal Election in Waverley,
The Liberal party will duly be elected.

For Richard Davidson who’ll win the Ward of Lawson,
For Jim Markham who’ll win the Ward of Waverley,
For Carolyn Markham who’ll win the Ward of Bondi,
And Derek Nathan who’ll win the Ward of Hunter.

They will all work hard in the important campaign,
To bring the promises of the party to the Waverley community,
To remember that all the promise of the last election,
Have been received well throughout the whole Municipality.

The Bondi Junction redevelopment program,
The Bondi Beach beautification to restore the buildings.
And to redevelop the Hotel of Bondi Beach for business and for tourism purposes,
But to the State government that had blocked this development ‘with rocks in their head’!

Poem Number 181 - A Pre-selection of Preselectors - 29/9/1986

I was one of the first to arrive at ‘ The Hakoah’
Some people I spoke too backstabbed some candidates to stand.
They spoke with a fiery torch in their hands,
The audience was to decide: out of ten a good man.

To myself, the first round of speeches show all the difference,
They all outlined that to win, ‘Phillip’ needs a team of full campaign management and working.
That all discussed why they should win,
Not at all ‘why’ and ‘what’ would happen if they lose!

Not at all had good qualities to be represented,
But at least six should have been given a proud dance.
That was not to happen, everything went haywire,
The results of elimination were quite clear of the numbers.

For one ‘Dickhead’ of a candidate (the youngest of all),
Had brought out a prepared speech of not his own,
And read out in staggered sentences of which he couldn’t understand,
The laughable comments, which slipped out of his mouth.

Then when the question time commenced,
He had answered the few, by a short ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.
That he was ridiculed by himself,
And left us, our entire crowd with laughter.

This young bastard had the audacity to run,
This young hoodlum had the idea he’d win.
For his numbers had grown to ten,
And the day had arrived for him to go around, the bend.

He help eliminate, one by one; the candidates,
His end ambition had been rather surprising, to us all.
One should have 303’d him with no breath alert,
To ensure that the mockery was not made into reality.

Ray Collins was elected our new candidate for ‘Phillip’,
Ray has the suave personality to make us reach him.
To tell the community to rest assured,
That his representation to Canberra will be heard of, for sure!
